The Dragon Mac product is simply another beast altogether, so do expect it to act differently when making a comparison with the Windows product. I wouldn't call it abandoned, as it is kept relatively up to date and it does have a dedicated Mac development team.
It's not like Dragon Premium, where the 'premium' range has been abandoned altogether. One thing to consider is that the Dragon for Mac product will never work in the same way the Windows version does, this is due to a few reasons - but mainly due to fundamental differences between Mac & Windows operating systems.
That said, it does turn speech into text quickly and accurately. I must ask, have you tried using Siri on your Mac? It does work quite well these days and would recommend you give it a go, particularly if you're experiencing issues with Dragon for Mac. I would go with VMWare Fusion over Parallels also, it seems more reliable and has less noticeable input lag (from dictated speech, to mouse/keyboard entries). How did you find the 6.0.8 update?

The 6.0.8 update has been quite stable. The 6.0.0 version would not check for new updates. I must ask, have you tried using Siri on your Mac? High Sierra has enhanced dictation built in (which I understand utilises Sir's API and whatnot) and I found it wanting especially with medical vocabulary. I would go with VMWare Fusion over Parallels also, it seems more reliable and has less noticeable input lag (from dictated speech, to mouse/keyboard entries). 's recommendation above enticed me to revisit Bootcamp and I found that I could dictate from the Mac's Dragon app to MS Word (Windows) quite effectively. Unfortunately, I could not locate a downloadable trial version of Dragon Professional (PC). I would be interested to know how the Windows version differs from the practical execution of the Mac version. Anyway, I have decided to continue using the Macintosh version. My next foray into purchasing Dragon will likely be Dragon Medical (PC) in a few years. Not original poster, but have spent quite some time with enhanced dictation for Mac and am now using Dragon. I found that for controlling the Mac enhanced dictation is way better. But dictation and editing text is a whole other world with Dragon.
I was rarely able to use the built-in dictation on Mac for more than 20 minutes before I'd be too frustrated to continue. This is not an issue with Dragon. It's really amazing how good it is at recognizing what is said and how easy it is to edit text!
That said I am still considering whether I have to switch to Windows because the application support on Mac is so poor. The only way to functionality dictate is by using TextEdit and then copy paste into wherever you really want the text to go.
But even TextEdit doesn't have buttons that Dragon recognizes. So when closing it you can click the cancel button but not the delete document button. And when opening it you have to go through the file menu because the new document button can't be clicked by Dragon. But yeah, Dragon dictation is still way better than the built in enhanced dictation on a Mac:-) (Dictated in TextEdit with Dragon).
